An anal fistula is an abnormal tunnel between the anal canal and the skin near the anus.
An anal fissure is a small tear in the lining of the anus, often caused by constipation or trauma.
Causes:
Chronic constipation or diarrhea
Infections or abscesses near the anal region
Inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g., Crohn’s disease)
Trauma or injury during childbirth
Symptoms:
Pain during or after bowel movements
Bleeding from the anus
Swelling or pus discharge (in case of fistula)
Itching or irritation around the anal area
Treatments:
Medications
for pain relief and infection control in early stages
Laser Surgery

Conventional Surgery
– Recommended for complex or recurring cases
Fistulotomy or Fistulectomy
– depending on the severity and type
Prevention:
High-fiber diet and adequate hydration
Avoid straining during bowel movements
Maintain good anal hygiene
Prompt treatment of anal infections or abscesses
