Burns Treatment & Management

Burns are injuries to the skin or deeper tissues caused by heat, electricity, chemicals, or radiation.

Causes:

Fire or hot liquids (thermal burns)
Electrical currents
Chemicals (acid or alkali)
Sun exposure or radiation
Friction or scalding

Symptoms:

Redness, swelling, or blistering
Pain and peeling of skin
Charred or white patches (severe burns)
Shock, difficulty breathing (in major burns)

Treatments:

First aid for minor burns (cooling, dressing, ointments)
Pain relief and antibiotics
IV fluids and infection control for major burns
Skin grafting for deep burns
Surgical cleaning (debridement) and plastic reconstruction if needed

Prevention:

Keep hot items and chemicals out of children’s reach
Use protective gear when handling heat or chemicals
Ensure fire safety at home and workplace
Avoid sun exposure without protection
